Overview
MaintLog ("the App") is a personal vehicle and property maintenance tracker developed by Johnson Ventures LLC d/b/a CodePilot Studios ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.
This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device using your device's secure storage:
- Asset profiles (vehicles, home, appliances, equipment)
- Maintenance tasks, due dates, and service history
- Service costs, notes, and technician records
- Photos attached to service records
- Documents stored in the Pro Vault
- App preferences (theme, units, region, language, notifications)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the Export or Backup features, in which case you control where the file is saved or shared.
We do not integrate any crash reporting frameworks, product analytics, or telemetry tools. Your usage of the app is completely private.
Device Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions:
Camera
Used to scan VIN barcodes, scan text from physical receipts (processed entirely on-device), and take photos for service records. Photos are saved locally on your device only.
Photo Library
Used to attach existing photos to service records and the Pro Vault. Access is only requested when you initiate an attachment action.
Notifications
Used to send local maintenance reminders when tasks are due or upcoming. All notifications are generated on-device; no notification data is sent to external servers.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing the data they collect.
Google AdMob (Advertising)
Free users see banner and rewarded video advertisements served by Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers and advertising data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. All ad requests are configured with non-personalized ads only to minimize data collection. Even for non-personalized ads, AdMob uses local storage for frequency capping and fraud detection. In regulated regions, the App uses a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) to gather required consent before loading ads. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
RevenueCat (In-App Purchases)
Pro upgrade purchases are processed through RevenueCat, which manages subscription and entitlement verification via the platform's native purchase system (Google Play or Apple App Store). RevenueCat may collect purchase transaction data. See their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Amazon Associates (Affiliate Links)
When you tap a "Buy on Amazon" button next to a part number, you are redirected to Amazon.com with a search query. Amazon may collect data in accordance with their privacy policy at amazon.com/privacy.
NHTSA API (Vehicle Data)
When you enter a VIN or look up vehicle specifications, the App queries the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public API. This request transmits your VIN or vehicle year/make/model to NHTSA's servers to retrieve recall information and vehicle specifications. NHTSA is a U.S. government agency; see their privacy policy at nhtsa.gov/privacy-policy.
CPSC SaferProducts.gov (Appliance & Equipment Recalls)
When you look up recall information for an appliance or piece of equipment, the App queries the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's public SaferProducts.gov API, transmitting the brand and model name you entered. CPSC is a U.S. government agency; see their privacy policy at cpsc.gov/Privacy-Policy.
Google Places API (Service Provider Search)
When you search for a repair shop, mechanic, or dealer to attach to a service record, the App sends your search text to the Google Places API to return matching businesses. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Nominatim / OpenStreetMap (Home Address Lookup)
If you enter a home address for a Home-type asset, the App sends the address text you type to the Nominatim geocoding service (operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation) to suggest matching addresses. See OpenStreetMap's privacy policy at osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
Google Play Data Safety
The disclosures on this page are intended to correspond to the Data Safety declaration shown on MaintLog's Google Play store listing. Because the App collects no personal data on our own servers, the only data types declared are those handled by the third-party SDKs described above — principally device and advertising identifiers used by Google AdMob, and purchase transaction data used by RevenueCat to verify your Pro entitlement. If you believe any statement here conflicts with the Play listing, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives you specific rights regarding personal information.
What we collect: Johnson Ventures LLC d/b/a CodePilot Studios does not collect, receive, or store your personal information. Your maintenance records remain on your device. The only categories of personal information handled in connection with the App are collected directly by third parties under their own privacy policies — specifically identifiers (device and advertising identifiers, by Google AdMob) and commercial information (purchase transactions, by RevenueCat and your app store).
Sale or sharing of personal information: We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. All advertising requests made by the App are configured for non-personalized ads, which are not used to build a cross-context behavioral advertising profile. We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding twelve months, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
Your rights. Subject to verification and legal exceptions, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to request correction, to opt out of sale or sharing, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
How to exercise them. Because we hold no personal information about you, we generally have nothing to disclose, correct, or delete — you can delete all App data yourself at any time by deleting individual records or uninstalling the App. You may still submit a request to support@codepilotstudios.com and we will respond as required by law. To adjust advertising consent, open Settings → Ad Privacy Options in the App. To exercise rights against Google or RevenueCat directly, use the contact methods in their respective privacy policies linked above.
European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR)
Controller. For any processing carried out in connection with the App, the controller is Johnson Ventures LLC d/b/a CodePilot Studios, reachable at support@codepilotstudios.com.
Scope. We do not operate servers and do not receive your maintenance data, so in practice we process very little personal data about you. Where personal data is processed in connection with the App, it is processed by the third parties listed above acting under their own privacy notices.
Lawful bases. Advertising and any associated identifiers are processed on the basis of your consent, gathered before any ad loads through a Google-certified Consent Management Platform, and withdrawable at any time via Settings → Ad Privacy Options. Purchase and entitlement verification is processed as necessary for performance of a contract with you. Where you use the VIN, recall, service-provider, or address-lookup features, the query you type is transmitted to the relevant provider on the basis of your request to use that feature.
Retention. Your maintenance data is retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep it and is destroyed when you delete it or uninstall the App. Cached service-provider search results are discarded automatically after 24 hours. We retain nothing on our own systems.
Your rights. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Because we hold no personal data about you, requests concerning ad identifiers or purchase records should be directed to Google or RevenueCat respectively; contact us and we will assist where we are able.
International transfers. The third-party services described above are operated primarily from the United States and may process data there under their own transfer safeguards.
Children's Privacy
MaintLog is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Data Security
Because all app data is stored locally on your device, the security of your maintenance records depends on the security of your device (screen lock, encryption settings, etc.). We recommend keeping your device software up to date and enabling device-level encryption.
Backup files exported from the App are unencrypted JSON or CSV files. Store and share them as you would any sensitive personal document.
Your Rights & Data Deletion Policy
Because MaintLog does not create or require a user account, there is no account to delete. All data is managed locally. To permanently delete all your data, you can simply uninstall the app, which will securely erase all locally stored data, or delete individual records directly within the app.
Since we do not collect or store your data on any external servers, you have full control over your data at all times. You can:
- Delete any asset, task, or service record directly within the App
- Export a full backup of your data at any time via Settings → Export Data
- Uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data from your device
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
